On September 4th, AFD signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government Housing Bank (GH Bank) in relation to the High Energy Efficiency Project in the Housing Sector. AFD intends to provide Thai Baht 1,960 million long term loan to GH Bank to promote high energy efficiency in residential buildings through special construction techniques and the use of energy efficient equipment.
AFD has been allowed to operate in Thailand by the French Interministerial Committee for International Cooperation and Development (CICID) held on December 11th 2002. Now present in Thailand since 2004, the Agence Française de Développement Group finances sustainable development projects.
France and emerging countries have common interest in the management of global public goods such as climate, biodiversity and health. These areas require active bilateral cooperation and are integral to AFD’s strategic framework in these countries. Thailand’s rapid economic emergence, coupled with the leading role of the country in the Greater Mekong Subregion, implies that the actions undertaken in the territory have a significant impact on global public goods.
